  45. With this innovative and powerful new accelerator a 
  46. new dimension of performance is brought to the 
  47. Amiga 1200, with performance increases of multiple 
  48. times beyond the performance of the fastest 68k 
  49. based accelerators available today, for a 
  50. sensationally low price that is perfectly targeted at 
  51. the A1200 upgrade market. 
  52. <p>
  53. Primarily being designed as an upgrade board for 
  54. existing Amiga systems, the BLIZZARD 603e Power 
  55. Board incorporates phase 5's innovative 
  56. dual-processor technology, where a fast PowerPC 
  57. RISC processor is combined with a 68k processor. 
  58. In the case of the BLIZZARD 603e Power Board, a 
  59. choice of 68040-25 or 68060-50 CPU. The CPUs 
  60. dynamically share the memory and system busses, 
  61. which is necessary for a true multiprocessor 
  62. behaviour. While the original AmigaOS 3.x 
  63. continues to run on the 68K CPU (as well as all 
  64. existing applications) providing 100% compatibility - 
  65. the PowerPC 603e CPU is supported by a 
  66. comprehensive PPC Library developed by phase 5, 
  67. which provides all functionality to integrate the 
  68. PowerPC into the Amiga multitasking environment. 
  69. Software developers can easily optimise their 
  70. programs step by step by porting single tasks to 
  71. PowerPC code, which then can run parallel with 
  72. 68k tasks. Many important Amiga software vendors 
  73. are preparing ported or optimised versions of their 
  74. software packages already, so it is expected that a 
  75. large quantity of software products supporting the 
  76. PowerPC will be available soon.
  77. <p>
  78. This BLIZZARD 603e Power Board is available with 
  79. the fast PowerPC603e processor at a clock speed 
  80. of 240MHz. Also on the board is a 68060 processor 
  81. at a clock speed of 50mhz. Also provided is a fast 
  82. memory expansion option which uses standard 
  83. PS/2 type SIMMs. The memory is dynamically 
  84. shared by the two CPUs on the BLIZZARD 603e 
  85. Power Board. No SCSI-II interface is available on 
  86. the entry level 603e Power Board (though a Fast 
  87. SCSI-II control is standard on the 603e+ range).

  89. A maximum of 128 megabytes of memory can be 
  90. fitted to the two SIMM sockets
  91. <p>
  92. With it's fast 603e processor the BLIZZARD 603e 
  93. Power Board provides blistering performance that 
  94. can compete with most of the fastest PC systems 
  95. available today. With this performance the 
  96. BLIZZARD 603e Power Board is ready for the most 
  97. demanding applications such as 3D rendering and 
  98. high-speed 3D gameplaying, image manipulation, 
  99. animation, video applications, and many other 
  100. demanding applications that depend on fast CPU 
  101. performance.

  103. A standard Amiga A1200 runs at a speed of around 
  104. 1 million instructions per second. The 68060 in the 
  105. Power Board is capable of close to 38 MIPS, while 
  106. the 240mhz 603e processor is running at 338 MIPS.
